"In 1558 a descendant of the family, who in his boyhood had torn and mutilated the papers, repaired his fault to the best of his ability, and putting his own blamelessly ignorant construction on the language of the text, endowed the map, then rotten with age, with additions which have since caused a great amount of perplexity. He then published extracts from the letters with the map as an illustration."
