Genevieve,
I really appreciate your response to my concern about the need for information to show that John Thompson, son of David, was the same John Thompson of Weymouth and Mendon, MA from whom so many of us descend. While we all believe this to be true, we are sadly lacking in evidence to back it up. Even though we may never find any primary evidence to prove this connection, we need to collect as much secondary evidence as possible to support it.
You say that there is a handwritten Mendon document in the RI Historical Society library that states that David was John's father. What is the library citation for that document? What is the source for the birth date and place for John, son of David in England? Where in Weymouth records is the document that gives John's age -- a match for the date in England? As things stand, it seems to me that we have only circumstantial evidence that the two Johns are the same man and nothing to show the sources for even the circumstantial evidence. Or am I missing something?
I find many differences in the dates and places listed for John's birth and marriage. Was it in England or in Massachusetts? Did he marry "a Sarah" or Sarah Trevore? I wonder if each of us Tommies has different data on our charts for John? And where did our data come from? Has anyone on our list ever presented these facts to share with the others?
I am trying to bring my genealogy research to some kind of close because I have recently become legally blind and cannot see to read without a magnifying glass and cannot travel to do research or read microfilm any longer. This John Thompson problem is frustrating. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who is willing to share his chart for John.
Betty Lou
