Betty,
I don't have time to dig through all my resources, but it is almost a certainty that John's father is David. I found a very old, handwritten Mendon document in the RI historic society that states this. I notified Andersen but he brushed it off. His theory is based on John while in Mendon being referred to as Goodman, not Mr. - A Goodman was a landowner which was his position in Mendon. He had lost his shirt as a ship's master (Mr.) a decade or so earlier. The Weymouth records list John's age in a document which is identical to John's birth date in Plymouth England. There are many other reasons' to believe this too, including signature fragments that seem to match. At some point I have other leads I plan to follow too.

Wilma,
I have appreciated the information you have made available to the Tommies in recent emails, as well as the exchange about the heritage of David Thompson. This matters little, however, if we cannot connect with David's descendants.
Can you provide further data on John (2) Thompson, son of David? What are your sources or proofs for the John who settled at Mendon being the same John who was the son of David? As you no doubt know, Robert Charles Anderson in his Great Migration study, questions this. Those of us who descend from John (2) would like to be able to establish him as our ancestor. Can you help? Thanks!
Betty Lou
